Cocktails, Gin


Well the Cocktail posts have been very popular, so I decided to break in down by spirit, starting with gin. Now I know the purist out there that Martinis are stirred not shaken. I like mine shaken so that it is nice and chilled in that first sip. But to do it the proper way the directions say stir - enjoy.

Dry Martini

1 jigger of dry gin

1 count of dry vermouth

Crackled ice

Stir, strain into a standard Martini glass and garnish with a lemon twist

Sweet Martini

1 jigger gin

1 count sweet vermouth

Crackled ice

Stir, strain into a standard Martini glass and garnish with a cherry

Bronx

1 Snit of dry gin

1 count dry vermouth

1 count sweet vermouth

crackled ice

Shake, strain into a standard Martini glass and garnish with an orange twist

Abbey

1 jigger gin

1 pony orange juice

3 dashes angostura

1 dash sweet vermouth

Crackled ice

Shake, strain into a standard Martini glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry

Gibson

1 jigger gin

1 pony dry vermouth

Crackled ice

Stir, strain into a standard Martini glass and garnish with a pearl onion

Alaska

1 pony gin

1 count chartreuse

Crackled ice

Stir, strain into a standard Martini glass

Dixie

1 pony gin

1 count vermouth, French

1 count absinthe

Crackled ice

Stir, strain into a standard Martini glass

French Rose

1 pony gin

1 count cherry brandy

1 count kirsch

Crackled ice

Stir, strain into a standard Martini glass and garnish with a cherry

Russet

1 pony gin

1 pony sweet cider

1 dash raspberry syrup

Crackled ice

Stir, strain into a standard Martini glass and garnish with a apple slice

Caruso

1 pony gin

1 count vermouth, French

1 count Crème de Menthe

Crackled ice

Shake, strain into a standard Martini glass

White Lady

1 pony gin

1 count Cointreau

1 dash lemon juice

Crackled ice

Shake, strain into a standard Martini glass and garnish with a lemon twist

Clover Club

1 pony gin

1 count grenadine

3 dashes lemon juice

Crackled ice

Shake, strain into a standard Martini glass and garnish with a maraschino cherry

Gaby des Lys

1 pony gin

1 count orgeat syrup

2 dashes absinthe

Crackled ice

Shake, strain into a standard Martini glass

Crème de Gin

1 jigger gin

1 count Crème de Menthe

1 egg white

1 pony lemon juice

1 pony orange juice

Crackled ice

Shake, strain into a standard Martini glass

Crimson

1 jigger gin

1 pony port

1 dash orange bitters

Crackled ice

Shake gin and bitters, strain into an old fashion glass, add port and let settle, do not stir.

Pink Lady

1 jigger gin

1 count grenadine

½ egg white

2 dashes lemon juice

2 dashes orange bitters

1 count simple syrup

Crackled ice

Shake, strain into a tall glass

Charlie Chaplin

1 pony sloe gin

1 pony lime juice

1 pony apricot brandy

Crackled ice

Shake, strain into a sour glass

Jamaica Glow

1 jigger gin

1 count claret

1 count orange juice

3 dashes Jamaica Ginger

Crackled Ice

Shake, strain into a rocks glass with ice and garnish with a orange peel

Gin and Tonic

1 Jigger gin

1 count lime juice

Crackled ice

Shake, strain into a Highball with ice and top off with Tonic and garnish with a lime slice

Billy Taylor

1 Jigger gin

juice of ½ a lime

Crackled ice

Shake, strain into a Highball with ice and top off with club soda

Tom Collins

1 snit of gin

juice of 1 lime

1 count powder sugar

Crackled ice

Shake, strain into a Tom Collins glass filled with ice and top off with seltzer and garnish with a lime slice

Gin Cooler

1 jigger gin

1 whole lemon rind

Place lemon rind at the bottom of a highball glass, fill with ice, add gin and top office with ginger ale.

Spanish Cooler

1 jigger gin

1 jigger curacao

2 drops bitter almonds

whole lemon rind

Crackled ice

Shake, strain into a highball with the lemon rind at the bottom and ice on top, top off with seltzer water.

Gin Squirt

1 jigger gin

1 count simple syrup

2 dashes raspberry syrup

Crackled ice

Shake, strain into a sour glass and top off with seltzer water and garnish with raspberries

Long Cocktail

1 jigger gin

1 jigger curacao

1 teaspoon powdered sugar

2 drops bitter almond extract

½ lemon peel

Shake, strain into a tall glass with ice, top off with seltzer water and garnish with lemon peel.
